At the Wild Animal Park

Our brand new summer camp program for children entering grades 19 will be the best ever, with 1, 2, 3, or 5 days of fun!

1 Day of Fun!

One-day camps are for campers who will be entering grades 19 in the fall of 2008. Please check below for sessions for each age range. Camper drop-off begins at 8 a.m. and pick-up concludes promptly at 5 p.m. For parents who need additional pick-up time, there is an extended-day option available for all one-day camps until 6 p.m. for an additional $15 fee. Lunch, snacks, and a camp T-shirt will be provided for all one-day camps.

Animal Extremes

Grades 13

Take a look at the most extreme animals on the planet! Campers entering grades 13 will learn about extreme adaptations for survival and all the oddities that place certain animals at the top of the “most extreme” list. Meet extreme animals up close during private animal encounters, make extreme crafts, get extremely soaked, go extremely behind-the-scenes, and have an all around extreme day!

Grossology

Grades 46

Become engrossed in the scientific study of all things yuck! Campers entering grades 46 will learn the ins and outs of animal digestion through hands-on activities, cool biofacts, and special animal visits. You’ll travel through the Wild Animal Park in search of digestive activity, eat like an animal does, venture behind the scenes, and get the real scoop on poop! This class will make you see feces in a whole new light!

The Big Picture

Grades 79

Focus on that flamingo, zoom in on that zebra, and click on that clapper rail! Campers entering grades 79 will learn how to shoot like a pro from professional wildlife photographer Ron Garrison. Venture out into the field exhibits on a caravan truck for savanna photos, then enjoy a private animal encounter to get some great close-up shots. Upload your photos and learn how to edit digitally. Then print your favorite photo to take home!

2 Days of Fun!

Wild Survivor

Grades 4–6 and 7–9

One reflective blanket, some twine, an edible plant guide, and 900 acres of wilderness…would you know what to do? Construct your own shelter, navigate your way using only a compass and the stars, and forage for food. Campers entering grades 4–6 and 7–9 will spend two full days plus one night learning valuable wilderness survival skills. In addition to sleeping in our brand-new campground, Wild Survivors will explore behind-the-scenes areas of the Wild Animal Park and meet animal ambassadors during private animal encounters.

Lunch and snacks will be provided all three days, dinner on Wednesday and Thursday, breakfast on Thursday and Friday. A full packing list will be provided upon registration.

Animal Care Boot Camp

Grades 4–6 and 7–9

Can you fill an animal keeper’s boots? Students entering grades 4–6 and grades 7–9 will experience firsthand the many responsibilities involved in caring for exotic animals. From exhibit design and veterinary care to nutrition and zookeeping, this camp does it all! Get ready to get down and dirty learning everything about animal care and conservation.

Why not make it a week? You can! Come Monday, stay through Friday. Enjoy our two-day Wild Survivor camp program, our three-day Animal Care Boot Camp program, and an extra overnight stay full of animal surprises! That’s a full five days and four nights of camp! Campers who will be entering grades 4–6 in the fall of 2008 may participate in a full week of camp July 7–11 or July 21–25. Campers who will be entering grades 7–9 in the fall of 2008 may participate in a full week of camp the week of July 14–18. Drop-off will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday and pick-up will conclude promptly at 5 p.m. on Friday. There is no extended-day option for this program. A full packing list will be provided upon registration.
